Comparing Search Popularity Ratings Services: June To Nov. 2007

December 30th, 2007 by

I’ve now compiled the latest search
popularity stats
from
Nielsen,
comScore,
Hitwise and
Compete. That means
it’s time to put them all together, to see what a "panel" of ratings services
agree on — and don’t agree on — in terms of search engine popularity.

Compete Nov. 2007 Search Stats: Google Hits High; Microsoft Steady & Yahoo Declining

December 30th, 2007 by

Nearly done with today’s search
popularity stats
review. Previously, I’ve covered the latest stats from
Nielsen,
comScore and
Hitwise. Now its time for
Compete. Like the others, it puts Google tops.
Unlike the others, it’s far more positive about Microsoft’s share and negative
about Yahoo.

Hitwise Nov. 2007 Search Stats: Google Near All-Time High; Microsoft Hits All-Time Low

December 30th, 2007 by

With the latest stats from
Nielsen and
comScore posted earlier today, I continue
on with my compilation of the latest search
popularity stats
, now moving to Hitwise. As with the others, Google is way
in the lead for November 2007. But unlike the others, Hitwise has a full year of
trending data that can be reviewed. That perspective shows that Google has
remained relatively unchanged in terms of share for months, while Microsoft has
hit an all-time low.

comScore Nov. 2007: Google Tops Search Share; Yahoo Holds Steady In Number Of Searches

December 30th, 2007 by

Continuing on from my
earlier post
about Nielsen Online’s latest search
popularity stats
, I’m now moving to those from
comScore. For November 2007 — as with
Nielsen — it’s the same-old, same-old. Google’s on top, followed by Yahoo and Microsoft.
But in terms of raw searches, while Google still shows gains, at least Yahoo can
point to six months worth of holding steady.

DietsInReview.com Reviewed (or, Why Email Spam Whois Data of Bloggers With High Touch Marketing Ideas?)

December 29th, 2007 by

Some marketers aggressively email spam people to promote their best ideas, thinking no harm could come from it. If you do not take the time to personalize emails and actually visit the sites you are emailing then you probably going to send someone like me an email, and there is a 5% chance I will blog about it. If I blog about it, I am probably not going to be talking up the product. ;)

DietsInReview.com recently launched their celebrity weight loss calculator. I was sent a bulk unpersonalized email containing the following tip

The tool is specifically un-branded so it can blend with your experience. All we ask is that you post the entire code which contains a link back to our site.

Their site has a great growth chart. They come up with great marketing ideas. They are clever with SEO. And they are too lazy to connect the pieces without untargeted email spamming. Silly. Spend $10 an hour hiring someone to send out the emails if you are too lazy to do it yourself.

If you are reactive to blog feedback (like they were here kimkinscontroversy.com/2007/09/25/kimkins-affiliate-spotlight-dietsinreviewcom/) then why not be proactive in creating meaningful relationships in the community? No point putting great ideas on churn and burn sites, and no point burning relationships with leading editorial voices in your market if you are creating a longterm site.

Introducing SearchSalad: A Healthy Way to Search

December 29th, 2007 by

Every once in awhile its good to see other metasearch engine come out of the web. While the top five major search engines battle it out, day in and day out in outclassing each other introducing new features here and there, answering privacy concerns of users, its a breather that something like SearchSalad came out of hybernation.

In a nutshell SearchSalad is all about crawling the top search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and wikipedia for relevant results related to a user’s search keyword. So, instead of searching those search engines one by one, SearchSalad crawls through the top search engines and displays the most relevant results, even eliminating duplicate results along the way.

Working as a metasearch engine, SearchSalad does not have a database of its own and relies on the top search engines database properties. SearchSalad even queries product databases of non-search sites such as Kelko and Ebay as an added bonus to search results.

To give users additional flexibility through personal customization. SearchSalad gives users the option to select the search engines to be included in their search, choose search results based on the strenght of the search engines, upload personalized background picture and play music through its My Salad facility.

Paul Sago, Director of Lemon Interactive, SearchSalad owner best summarizes what SearchSalad is all about:

“This is the future of search and we anticipate bringing many new innovations to the site over the coming months.”

SearchSalad covers the web, video, audio, image, news maps by crawling Google, Yahoo, Ask, MSN, Wikipedia as well as non-search sites such as eBay, Kelkoo, Engadget, Review Centre, CNET, YouTube, Blinx and Ciao.
